Romagnoli scores stoppage-time winner for Milan

Image
AC Milan's Alessio Romagnoli scored a stoppage-time winner for the second time in five days as they dramatically beat Udinese 1-0 away on Sunday. Defender Romagnoli, who scored a freak winner against Genoa on Wednesday, this time blasted home the ball in the 97th minute after a counterattack to keep his side fourth in Serie A. Milan won the ball in midfield and burst forward with five players against three but took seemingly an age to finish off the move. Patrick Cutrone dallied and was forced to the byline, pulled the ball back for Suso who played it to Romagnoli and the pair exchanged passes again before Romagnoli finally blasted home with his left foot. Romagnoli was mobbed by Milan players and staff and booked for a shirtless celebration but there was more drama when the linesman raised his flag. Milan coach Gennaro Gattuso was sent off for protesting amid the confusion but the goal was finally confirmed after a VAR review. Milan, dealt a blow when striker Gonzal...

Gagliardini grabs double in impressive Barcelona warm-up

Inter warmed up for the visit of Barcelona on Tuesday with an emphatic 5-0 victory over Genoa at San Siro. Two goals from Roberto Gagliardini, either side of Matteo Politano's strike, and late Joao Mario and Radja Nainggolan goals moved Luciano Spalletti's side back into second place in Serie A as they won a fourth home league match in a row for the first time in 12 months. Inter's seventh top-flight win in succession came despite the likes of Mauro Icardi, Matias Vecino and Nainggolan starting on the bench, leaving them in good shape to face Barca in a key Champions League match next week. Gagliardini put Inter ahead after only 14 minutes, pouncing on a loose ball in the box to prod home from six yards, with the goal standing after a quick check from the referee with the VAR crew. Two minutes later, the home side had their second. Politano reached Joao Mario's pass ahead of his man and fired low past goalkeeper Ionut Radu for his second goal of the season. ...

Paulo Dybala’s strike inside the opening minute set Juventus on course for their 10th win of the Serie A campaign, although Cagliari made things uncomfortable for Massimiliano Allegri’s men. After seeing nearest rivals Inter Milan romp to victory against Genoa earlier in the day, the Bianconeri restored their six-point cushion at the top of the standings with a 3-1 triumph at the Allianz Stadium. Juventus got off to the dream start as Dybala struck inside the opening minute, but Cagliari came back into proceedings and levelled superbly though Joao Pedro. But the Sardinians were level for just 125 seconds as Filip Bradaric scored an own goal, with the midfielder perhaps fortunate not to give away a penalty shortly afterwards. Cristiano Ronaldo rattled the woodwork at the end of a first half that was followed by a far-less interesting second period, with the Portuguese setting up Juan Cuadrado for a late third. While it was not an entirely convincing display, it acted ...
